B-52 Stratofortress Aircraft Art Gallery.
Here is a list of books covering the
USAF 's Oldest bomber in the Air Force inventory. The B-52 Stratofortress
has been in service for over 40 years. The electronics have been
upgraded, there have been other modifications but the basic aircraft has
never been changed. Yet, the B-52 Stratofortress is still in front line service.
One day I went to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento and took a close
look at the SAC B-52's. The interesting thing that I noticed is
that the fuselage, just forward of the wing, was wrinkled with about
twelve inch high waves in the skin. To me this was incredible, but
after talking to a B-52 pilot, he told me that when the wings have a
load on them all of the wrinkles come out.
